Chinese consulate

In line at Chinese consulate for Visa. Who knew I was destined to have so many visits here. Eventually, I will actually have to visit China myself. By that point I will be so experienced at obtaining a visa. Anyway, I am always amazed at the organized choas of this place. If you follow the guidelines, the process, although tedious is fairly straight forward. My only regret today is that I have a massive headache and nothing interesting to read.

Alexander McQueen at Target

I love Alexander McQueen despite the rude sales people at his MePa store.  I remember seeing his first collection when I was a fashion design student and being amazingly impressed with his originality.  I have just seen his new collection for Target http://www.target.com/b/?node=1260398011&ref=tgt_adv_XCDD3500&afid=d_default&lnm=3500|default|||728x90||&cpng=rtwmcq and it is, for the most part, completely unremarkable.  I have to say that the Design for All campaign at Target can be hit or miss.  There is an aspect of high fashion that really depends on the quality of the textiles/ workmanship/ fit and less on the design of the clothes.   I actually have several nice pieces of clothing from Target, but they’re usually from the regular collection and not from the highly designed and (more often than not) poorly executed Design for All.  I remain open, but have not yet been impressed.  That being said – I am a Target devotee.

Sign of the times

This really is a sign of the times:

Reservations at Per Se readily available and bookable via Open Table http://dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/open-tables-even-at-per-se/

I was able to secure a slot at Milk & Honey this week.  Shocking.  http://www.mlkhny.com/newyork/newyork.php

Rose Bar is now open for “happy hour” to regular folks and not just friends of Ian Schrager.   http://www.downbythehipster.com/blog/2009/3/9/happy-hour-at-rose-bar.html

I am not happy about the state of our economy, but it is kind of fun to FINALLY be able to check out some of these exclusive places that most of us only get to read about.  More to come…

To tweet or not to tweet?

There was an article in todays Financial Times talking about how Twitter is the next new thing. My feelings about Twitter (and this blog for that matter) are mixed. I just wonder if Twitter, FB and blogging are creating masses of self important, self absorbed people. I am including myself in that group since I have an account with each. I thought of several items today that were "tweet worthy" but were they really? Does anyone *really* care about my opinion on spring 09 fashion (what's up w/ depression chic? Not chic at all if you ask me), NYC bars (I scored res for my boss at coveted Milk and Honey), etc?  Hardly. And if some is interested, they'll usually ask me.

That being said, I think I am going to start posting more frequently to see if it holds my interest or anyone elses ;). I *have* been feeling quite self absorbed recently!

F'it

So, I couldn’t help myself.  I have on another spring outfit today.  Eventually it WILL get warm and I’ll be appropriately dressed.  Of course, by that time, I will be pining for my tweed jackets, textured tights and wood dresses again.  I guess my fashion training has forced me to always look ahead one season.  That is, I am sure, the reasoning behind resort season.  Because after the holidays, it’s no fun to wear winter clothes anymore.  Now if I could only plan a vacation that required resort wear…

Freezing

So in effort to get out of my dreary mood I wore literally the happiest outfit possible today. Yellow JCrew cartigan with rhinestone buttons (made famous by Michelle Obama), metallic gold/yellow skirt, metallic heels and my standard 3 strand of pearls. If I weren't so gloomy, I'd be a vision of sunshine. Anyway-the weatherman was a little off on forecast and it never went above 30 degrees today. Because of this I am freezing my ass off at the bus stop even with my fur coat on. This has been an endless winter and I am eagerly awaiting spring.
